We are a locally owned company founded in Spokane WA in 2017 by Deborah DiBernardo. We are locally owned and operated. All of the coffee we serve is locally roasted by our partners at The Roast House. We have won numerous awards for our commitment to excellence.

We are intensely focused on providing the most memorable experiences over a cup of coffee. For that, we take extra care in our Customer Service, Organic Coffee, Specialty Beverage, and Bakery experiences throughout our diverse company platform and world-class Flagship Cafè and Bakery in Spokane.

Position Overview:

Position Overview: Our bakers are feeding operational greatness and are the driving force behind First Avenue Coffee customers with tasty treats and bites. Our bakers and baristas are friendly, and personable and can engage with customers by providing outstanding service. Ability to work with cross-functional teams, participate in team meetings, always eager to learn, and have the ability to multitask with efficiency and speed at all times.

Our Bakery Assistant position truly feeds our operational greatness and is the driving force behind our cafe. Your culinary expertise will have the opportunity to shine as you assist our lead baker in bringing our visions and taste buds to life. With a passion for all things confection, our Bakery Assistant is responsible for helping to deliver exceptional treats to our valued customers.

Essential Functions:

  • Always provide exceptional customer service, resolve all customer complaints, and ensure the customer leaves satisfied.
  • Complies with all First Avenue Coffee’s policies and procedures with integrity.
  • Attend all staff and company meetings.
  • Maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume and unusual events.
  • Properly bake and prepare products. Follow written production area guidelines for quality, value, service, and cleanliness.
  • Understand & execute food standards, policies, procedures, specifications, and guidelines of baking operations.
  • Know how to rotate, prepare, and store food.
  • Properly handle storage and movement of product to work area.
  • Communicate to the lead Baker when you need supplies for baking projects.
  • Check stock to ensure an adequate supply based on projected volume. Always check with the lead Baker to ensure the accuracy of stock levels.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Clean kitchen equipment and tools before and after use.
  • Knowledge of general business operations, drive sales, and reduce costs.
  • Report any equipment issues as soon as they occur to management.
  • Maintain location cleanliness and adhere to all food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to effectively problem solve and escalate issues to management.
  • Can distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate behavior to inform management.
  • Willingness to perform any additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Execute opening, closing, shift change procedures including cash/deposit handling.



Minimum of 1 year experience as a baker’s assistant in a high-volume bakery organization preferred.
Valid Food Handlers Certificate required.
Understanding of food safety practices.
Must know how to operate commercial bakery equipment
Must have basic baking skills such as scaling, mixing, proofing, baking, cooking,
decorating and use of knives
Team spirit, with a customer-focused attitude.
Flexibility to work in early morning shifts.High School Diploma or GED
At least 18 years of age
Must have weekend availability
