Our Story

In 2023 Doyle and Carri Wheeler took over First Avenue Coffee. Here’s how it all happened:

In 2011 Doyle became friends with Deborah on Twitter after being invited to the Roast House’s 1 year anniversary party. After meeting in person they both saw the value in each other’s passion. Doyle was busy building his Digital Marketing Agency, Kinetek Media, and Deb was busy building community with Damn Good Coffee at the Roast House. Deb immediately asked Doyle to start using his skills to promote her brand on social media with photography.

Over time Doyle’s passion for coffee grew. Out of control to be honest, and eventually, he built a coffee bar in his home to share coffee drinks with his family and friends. The dream was alive of owning a coffee shop in the future. In May of 2023, Deb reached out to Doyle and Carri to see if they would take over First Avenue Coffee due to terminal cancer. Deb says, “I am so happy. Doyle and Carri are the perfect couple to continue growing First Avenue Coffee, my happy place”. 

Doyle and Carri continue to operate Kinetek Media and grow First Avenue Coffee into the shop it is today. All of our baked goods are scratch made in our own bakery. Every syrup we use are all. made in house as well. Carri loves to see happy people enjoying a gathering place filled with her sweet treats, granola and loving hospitality. You’ll find Doyle growing the business with a happy and vibrant team, community partnerships, delicious coffee drinks, and fun events. 

Deborah Di Bernardo founded Roast House Coffee in 2010, a specialty coffee roastery committed to only sourcing earth-friendly coffee and supporting a sustainable coffee supply chain. In 2018, she decided to branch out and open First Avenue Coffee. What you see today was the start of her big ideas and forward thinking for specialty coffee. While you’re in First Avenue Coffee, you will see her legacy on display and preserved for years to come.

We aspire to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that fosters genuine connections, nurtures art and creativity, and fuels the aspirations of individuals from all walks of life.

So, our coffee beans will only be sourced from roasting partners that care about our world, Fair Trade, support women-owned farms, and are all organic.
